Big Bellies

(scroll down for English)

Pregnant women want to look nice too and they often spend a lot of money to buy a completely new wardrobe. I know all about it myself. After pregnancy you may wear one or two garments on, but most of these - usually expensive - clothes stay hanging in your closet catching dust. Too bad because usually these clothes are barely worn. Big Bellies founder, Silvia Schakel, opened her online store with used maternity clothes based on the idea that pregnant women need the opportunity to buy affordable maternity clothes without spending much time. Big Bellies sells used maternity clothing from various brands, like H & M, Esprit, Prenatal and Noppies, there is something there for everyone.

Last year I hardly had pregnant friends to whom I could pass my clothes on, therefor this is for me an ideal way to get rid of them it. It feels good to! It’s nice to know that someone else can use my clothes and enjoy them to. Although I have very pleasant memories of the time I wore these clothes (And I have to admit that I had a little trouble saying goodbye to my maternity trench coat), this option is better than to let them gather dust.

I’ve met founder Silvia Schakel last fall at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce in Hilversum. We both went online with our online stores in February of this year and keep in touch ever since.
What I like about this shop is that Silvia found a gap in the market from personal experience. Big Bellies in the Netherlands is one of the few suppliers of used maternity wear through a professional and user friendly shop.

Baby's first clothes

Today was a beautiful sunny day, seemed like the best moment to wash some baby clothes. They are all so new and crispy. I used a special detergent without perfume and I imagined that little person that is still inside of me wearing this all.
As you know I'm in a pregnancy class, today was the class whith our partners/ husbands. It was very interesting and still funny. We talked about all stages of birth, I hope that I'll experience that this time and will not have a c-section.

When I came home I found this link in my e-mail from Marianne: Belly shoot
So, so happy she made me those pictures, Isn't Marianne talented?

happy weekend

picnic, in our garden, coloring a new costume, baby belly in week 31

It was a long, warm and happy weekend, we've enjoyed the summer very much. We've had friends over, went to see other friends, had more friends over and we went for a picnic.
Yesterday I've went to see (with Rinse) the movie Coco avant Chanel, which was quite good.
My feet are getting bigger and bigger. They are swollen because of the pregnancy (my bloodpressure is low, so there is nothing to worrie about), today they became so big that I've had to buy myself these Birkenstocks (and said goodbye elegance...).

week 30

I can't believe it's week 30 already! It's difficult to imagine that the baby is here after 2 months!
It was a great day today! So sunny, relaxing and warm. Did a lot of laundry to (that dried very fast in the sun).

It feels like Sunday

But it's not, but we are having a quiet day here because of the Ascension day. Although Rinse has to work this evening; it feels like a slow Sunday. At last!
I'm 30 weeks pregnant now, we still have to trans locate a lot of stuff out of the baby room, but I have that feeling for nesting again. My therapy: cleaning the kitchen cabinets. I've just cleaned and reorganised 2 of 8!

So, Samuel just asked me what Twitter means. How to explane Twitter to a 5 year old whithout sounding stupid????

The babybelly in april

Here is a photocollage of my growing belly, that I've made today.
Have a great weekend.

* Today was Queensday in The Netherlands. It begun as a sunny and happy day. But just before noon an automobilist drove in to the crowd that was cheering to and looking at the Royal Family. At least 5 people where killed. Everybody that watched the broadcasted celebration saw what happened. It's something you won't forget soon, so terrible.
So, we didn't had the urge to go out and celebrate anymore, we just went to the city center for a short time.

Today...

Today we went to the hospital to make an ultrasound of the baby. It was very impressive and detailed. The doctor told us a lot about the organs that we could see. Unbelievable! Since a couple of days I feel the baby moves stronger, now I could see how the moves look from the inside. It made me realise that the baby moves it's whole body (at this stage) when I feel it, I still don't feel separate kicks.
Well it was very impressive and beautiful and I'm very happy to know that the baby is doing fine.

Are you still there?

I am....and I was...but I tried to stay away from the computer as much as I could. Scrolling Internet pages made me vomit, literraly! I've been sick for months, but everything was for a good and happy cause: I'm PREGNANT! We are expecting or second child in July. We all are very happy! Samuel is already chatting to my belly, hoping that the baby will hear him. He's going to be a great big brother!

So we have a lot of things to do in our house, we are decorating and building smarter storage in different rooms. One of the things that I would like to share with you is this art piece. It was used as a template for a window in this building: Beeld en Geluid in Hilversum. This is the (very popular) national broadcasting museum and is located in our city.
Every window of this museum resembles a still from an important tv-programme. Our window template is a still from a Dutch television show with the Supremes!
We've have been lucky to receive this template for free from the designer Jaap Drupsteen (drupsteen.nl)! He has saved many of them of being destroyed.
The template is from MDF and very heavy. We've painted many layers of shiny (greenish-white) paint.
We are proud of the result!

Hope to see you again soon!
